Abstract

Sumbersari is a sub-district in Jember with seven villages. The villages in Sumbersari include: Antirogo, Karangrejo, Kebonsari, Keranjingan, Sumbersari, Tegalgede, and Wirolegi (BPS, 2023). There are approximately 98,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Jember District (Jatimpos, 2024), but not all SMEs in Jember, particularly in the villages of Antirogo, Sumbersari, and Jember, have obtained Halal certification. Awareness of the importance of Halal certification for SMEs, especially those in the food and beverage sector, remains low, possibly due to a lack of information about the significance of Halal certification. In this activity, awareness-raising sessions will be conducted for several SMEs and village officials regarding Halal, Halal certification, and guidance to obtain Halal certification for food and beverage products. The objective and target of this initiative are to enhance the understanding of the community and business operators, particularly SMEs, to encourage them to pursue Halal certification for their products. The actions to be taken to achieve these targets are: 1) discussions with SME operators and village officials to map out issues; 2) mapping products ready for halal certification; and 3) providing training, guidance, and solutions to SME operators and village officials to assist them in applying for product certification.
