Abstract

The home shoe industry is one of the community's income sources in Pasir Eurih Tourism Village, alongside the snack industry. The community's effort to become financially independent led to two opposing outcomes: increased income and waste from industrial activities. Un-organic waste in the form of the shoe’s insole proved difficult to overcome due to its non-biodegradable nature. Therefore, this community service goal is the implementation of a shredding machine to transform the insole into raw material for art pieces and concrete block products.  Utilizing French's design method results in a shredding machine powered by a diesel engine. The community teams also apply the Hayami method to estimate the economic value-added from waste with non-economic value, and the social impact index to estimate the benefit level gain from the home industry. Community service successfully empowers the home industry to protect its own environment from destruction by transforming waste into a valuable product. The economic value-added estimation indicates that the key chain product has greater economic value than concrete block production, yet, in terms of volume absorption, concrete block is more effective at overcoming rubbish accumulation. The environmental aspect has the highest social impact. Those waste transformation combos can achieve zero organic waste management if the home industry applies continuous actions and incorporates with home industry associations.
