Generative AI Use Policy

Purpose and Scope

Jurnal Ilmu Peternakan Terapan (JIPT) recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI), large language models, and AI-assisted technologies may support certain research and manuscript-preparation activities. Their use must remain transparent, responsible, and consistent with scientific integrity, research ethics, confidentiality, and applicable intellectual property requirements.

This policy applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and other individuals involved in manuscript submission, assessment, and publication. It covers AI tools used to generate or substantially modify text, images, tables, code, data summaries, analyses, or other material associated with a manuscript.

Permitted Uses by Authors

Authors may use appropriate AI tools to assist with language editing, grammar, readability, translation, organization of text, or other legitimate supporting activities. Authors remain responsible for verifying the accuracy, relevance, and suitability of all AI-assisted content before submission.

When AI tools have contributed to the generation or substantive modification of manuscript content, authors should disclose the tool or service used, its purpose, and the relevant aspects of the work in the disclosure statement or other location specified by the journal. Routine spelling or grammar checking that does not generate or materially alter scholarly content may not require a separate declaration, unless otherwise required by the journal.

Prohibited and Unacceptable Uses

AI tools must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, invent experimental observations, manipulate images deceptively, generate misleading statistical results, create fictitious references, or misrepresent the procedures or findings of a study.

Authors must not use AI-generated content to conceal plagiarism, reproduce copyrighted material without appropriate permission, misrepresent the originality of their work, or create false evidence of research. AI-generated references, quotations, calculations, scientific claims, and interpretations must be independently checked against reliable sources or the original research records.

Research Data and Animal-Related Studies

AI tools must not replace the actual collection of experimental observations or be used to manufacture evidence presented as real animal experiments, laboratory measurements, field observations, or survey results. If AI-assisted analytical methods are part of the research methodology, authors must describe their use sufficiently for readers to understand the method and evaluate its validity.

Authors must ensure that any use of AI in data processing, image analysis, statistical analysis, prediction, or modelling is scientifically appropriate and does not compromise animal welfare, research ethics, data integrity, or the validity of conclusions.

Authorship and Accountability

AI systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot take responsibility for research integrity, approve a final manuscript, disclose competing interests, or respond to editorial inquiries. Human authors retain full responsibility for the submitted and published work, including any errors or misleading statements introduced through AI assistance.

Confidentiality and Peer Review

Editors and reviewers must protect the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts, research data, reviewer reports, and editorial correspondence. Such material must not be entered into public or third-party AI systems when doing so could disclose confidential information, compromise intellectual property, or violate applicable data-protection requirements, unless the use is expressly authorized under appropriate safeguards.

AI-generated summaries or assessments must not replace the independent scholarly judgment of editors and reviewers. Any permitted use of AI in editorial work must comply with confidentiality obligations and must not transfer editorial accountability to an AI system.

Editorial Assessment and Consequences

The journal may request clarification about the use of AI when a declaration is incomplete or when questions arise concerning the accuracy, originality, or integrity of a manuscript. Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI may lead to additional review, a request for revision, rejection, correction, or other appropriate editorial action, depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue.

AI disclosure does not automatically determine whether a manuscript will be accepted or rejected. Editorial decisions remain based on scientific quality, originality, relevance, ethical compliance, and the reliability of the work.
