Abstract

Canning is a modern preservation method by heating treatment using high temperatures and packaging into hermetic cans. The conditions in the cans are required to be in a vacuum to prevent the growth of spoilage microbes that can damage the product. The hermetic packaging can be obtained by doing a perfect closure and there is no failure that occurs during the can closing or seaming process using a seamer machine. The types of seaming defects that occur at PT. Sumber Mutiara Samudra Banyuwangi are drop vees, false seams, and leaks. This quality control is carried out in the hope of minimizing the occurrence of defects during the production process. The FMEA (Failure Mode And Effect Analysis) method is one method that can be used to minimize the occurrence of can defects in the 155 gram fish canning process at PT. Sumber Mutiara Samudra Banyuwangi.
